Borobudur Temple has been well-known for ages. Yet, none is certain the precise date of the beginning of its foundation. Based on various sources, it was build around 8th and 9th century during the reigning period of Syailendra Dynasty. The origins of the reason in building this gigantic temple is still unknown. It was only said that it was apart of Buddhist kingdom peak period of rivalry with Hindu kingdom in Java although there was no proof of their war since both religions barely had any conflict to each other.
The completion of its instruction took 75 years and once it finished, the temple had been the main site of Buddhist pilgrimage. Yet, such ceased in around 14th century due to the fall of Buddhism in Java and the massive conversion to Moslem in the island. Thus, the temple had been abandoned till 19th century when Sir Thomas Raffles and H Cornelius discovered this temple which was covered in volcanic ashes and forest.
